To STUDY is to REST!

“So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.  For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.  For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” Hebrews 4:9-12

The definition of rest continues to be revealed to us.  I and often use this verse to help me understand the value and purpose of God’s Word … But this morning, as I looked in the context of the whole chapter, I saw for the first time that Scripture FACILITATES REST for us.  We are commanded to take a Sabbath day of rest…  We are directed by God and by our mission to “rest from (our) works”… but in that rest, we are to use God’s Word to develop our soul and spirit to be productive members of His body.  In our case, that means we are to use this time of rest to immerse ourselves in Scripture so that we will not fall into disobedience, so that we will be healed and renewed spiritually and physically, and we are to saturate every aspect of our being with scripture to prepare us for our ministry.

We must do this through our personal study and quiet time … But, for Pattie and I, this also means that we must return to school to study God’s Word in a deep and intentional way.

Pattie's First Day of School!

That said, we are excited to announce that …  Today, Pattie is starting her first day of classes at SOUTHWESTN BAPTIST THEOLOCIAL SEMINARY in Fort Worth, Texas!!  She is returning to school to study for a Masters of Art in Christian School Education (MACSE).

As we met with professors for this program, we were both blessed and amazed at the deep and thorough integration of Scripture into this educational program.  With an emphasis on Scripture, educational principles and curriculum are developed for the purpose of not only education, but to education with the goal of developing in the student a Christian World View.

Living internationally and our work at Narrow Gate Asia would not be possible without the educational opportunities for our children that we have at Chiang Rai International School in Thailand ( http://crics.asia/ ) .  Pattie also has been able to serve the servants of the missionary community in Chiang Rai by teaching and leading the Math Department for 6 years.  It has been a blessing to see her grow and flourish in this role, while being given the opportunity to be directly involved in our own children’s education.  After completion of the MACSE program, Pattie will be eligible for Certification as a teacher with the Association of Christian Schools International, be better equipped to teach Math from a Biblical perspective, and most importantly this intentional immersion in scriptural teaching will grow and renew her heart and mind during our Stateside assignment this year.

Please be in prayer for Pattie.  Classes began this morning and during the next several weeks she will attend and complete two intensive courses, followed by regular classes at Seminary in the fall. Pray for an open and teachable mind,  strength, endurance, and for God’s provision for needs related to seminary education.

Today is a big day for Pattie, as we have been praying and planning for many months to make this happen.  We are so glad to be here on Stateside, and we are blessed to be able to share this new experience and journey with our friends and Family in the US.  Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and financial support to further God’s Kingdom through Pattie and rest of the Brittan Family.
