Looking Sharp!

“Iron sharpens iron, So one man sharpens another.”  Proverbs 27:17

I have started meeting with a couple of friends every Tuesday morning for coffee at a local park.  Staying sharp spiritually is a task that God did not intend for us to do alone.  When we challenge and hold other men accountable to God’s path and call for our lives, we can be encouraged, lifted up in prayer, and positioned to run the race that God has set before us.  I thank God for these two men, and that we have a growing friendship that will helps us each as we go down the road to live a life that is more like Jesus Christ.

This reminds me of two other friends from my past.

One, more than a friend, is named Mike.  In 1999, he pulled me aside at the office and invited me to breakfast at 5:30am on a Thursday morning.  We met over oatmeal and coffee at IHOP nearly every Thursday after that day for the next four years.  It is his investment of time that allowed me to know what and how God works in my life.  This time where Mike sharpened and spoke into my life was instrumental in God calling our family to serve as missionaries along the Thai/Myanmar border.  Mike is now serving overseas as well, and I thank God for the impact and investment that he and his family made in our family.

Another friend is named Zomin.  Many of you may remember back to our State-side visit in 2009 when we shared with you about his family coming to live and work along the border area.  He had come to ask me to give him money for medicine.  I did give him the money but prayed for God to heal his son from a severe viral infection.  When Zomin returned back to his home with the medicine, his son was completely healed and up walking around.  His entire family came to know Jesus as Lord and Savior and we began to study the Bible every week together. After studying for over one year, he left to go back to Myanmar not really knowing what God’s plan might be for him.  After a long time of silence, Zomin called me yesterday.  I was so surprised to hear his voice and his excitement as he shared about how God is using him and his wife to do ministry among neglected children in his home village in Yangon Division.  It was good to hear that he had returned to his home and was sharing the love of Jesus with the lost in this community.  He prayed for us and invited our family to come and visit him in his home.  I thank God for this unexpected update from the field and from this disciple.

Discipleship is the key to successful, reproducible church planting.  Sometimes, we don’t know if our investments will pay off.  But we can rest assured knowing that when people grow in God’s Word, it will not return void.   On the other hand, one day we might receive a phone call from many miles away, from a friend from long ago, and be invited to see what God has done with our investment.

At Narrow Gate Farm and Dairy, we are praying for our next set up interns to come live and learn in our farm project.  Praying that they will be sharpened, prepared, and equipped to plant self-sustainable churches.  Thank you for praying for us and with our family as we look forward to seeing God’s Kingdom come and Will be done along the Thai/Myanmar border.

PRAYER REQUESTS:
Pray for God to recruit new interns for Narrow Gate Asia programs.
Pray for construction and development of farm facilities.
Pray for God to call individuals to join NGA in our monthly financial support team.
Pray that Narrow Gate Farm and Dairy will be used to expand God’s Kingdom along the Thai/Myanmar border.

Thank you, and God Bless.
In His Grip
Harry, Pattie, Hattie, Emma, Harry V, and Nellie.
