"My Quiver is Full of Them!

“Behold, children are a gift of the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward.   Like arrows in the hand of a warrior, So are the children of one’s youth.   How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them;” Psalms 127: 3-5.

God has blessed our family with four wonderful children, and Pattie and I thank God for them and for the unique flavor that each of them brings to our family. Some might say that four children is already a full quiver, but this past year, the Lord has expanded our family in an unexpected way.  We have some friends who run a home for Akha Hill-tribe children in Chiang Rai.  Most of the children do not have parents, but during school breaks they kids will go home to stay with extended friends and family.  Our friend Nancy shared with us about to young boys who did not have places to go back to and asked if they could come and stay at our farm.  When they came to stay within our farm, never did I realize that they would stay in our hearts as well.  They have now come to stay 4 times, ranging from a few days, to three months.  We live together, work together, and of course play together.  A first they would call me and Pattie Adtjan, or teacher, but now when they call us they call us Mom and Dad.

Sanchat is 16 years old, and comes from the hills around Chiang Sean.  He has been living at the home for 10 years.  He has just entered a new school where he studies computers and wants to be a programmer.  He is not sure just how yet, but he wants to use computers to serve in the church.  I am always impressed with how sensitive and caring this young man can be.  I works very hard to have good relationship with people at the farm and loves to play with Harry and Nellie.  Yesterday, Sanchat went to the Baan Duu Market with Harry and I to sell milk.  I is a good salesmen, but more than that, He is a blessing to our family.  Today, he went to school with Pattie to volunteer in the Computer department and get experience with the school’s technician.

Somgiat, is 15 years hold, and is from Mae Suay about 1 hour from Chiang Rai.  He lived alone in the mountains for three years before coming to the Hall to live.  He lost his parents when he was very young.  He will start at Electronics school next year, despite the fact that I keep telling him to study Animal Science so that he can come manage the farm someday.  He is a great worker and makes everything a fun came.  The thing that is most noticeable about Somgiat is his smile.  He smiles all the time.  He tries to act really tough, but the reality is that he wants to be loved.

They both work very hard and love being with the goats.  They serve right along side our workers and interns at the farm, and have not only become part of our family, but part of the farm team.  The boys will go back to school on Monday after a three week break at school.  For anyone that has know me very long, you have probably heard me say, “If you learn nothing else from me, ‘STICK TO THE VISION!”  But sometimes, the Lord expands our perspective by providing special unexpected additions to our lives.  We just have to be open to receive them.

Pray for Sanchat and Somgiat while they stay with us, and pray for God’s blessing on them as they return to the Hall and School.
