Four Days and Counting

"If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you ... These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full." John 15: 7 -11. Hudson Taylor, the founder of China Inland Mission, explains that there is nothing that we can do for ourselves to increase our faith, "but rather, we should rest in the One who is Faithful."

A life of "Abiding" in Jesus Christ allows for us as believers to do just that. This past week, several people helped us to define the word "Abide" like this: Rest, Connectedness, Reliance, to receive from the source, trust, and to have confidence in. This well known passage has helped many to recognize their need for a relationship with Jesus and to understand just how God provides for His children and His work.

But, it is also interesting to consider the implications of what it means to be connected to our family and friends. With only FOUR DAYS remaining before our return to Thailand, the process of saying "good-bye" has begun, and we are reminded of just how important each of these people are to our lives and our work. As we think about what it means to abide in the "True Vine," Jesus, we see that we are also connected to our "spiritual" family in such a way that goes beyond our own imagination. When the Lord provides for the need of one branch, He is in effect sharing all of his resources with the entire vine. Therefore, as we rest, and abide in Jesus Christ, we can approach Him through prayer with absolute confidence because we are already recipients of His abundantly life and power through our entire "spiritual" family.

We eagerly depart for Thailand on Monday August 17th. Our prayer is that "God's Kingdom will come, and His Will be done" in Mae Sai, Thailand, and that you too will have an opportunity to be a part of this task through Prayer, Service, and Support of Narrow Gate Asia.
