We are all having a great time on our trip. Along with getting to play at the beach, collect sea shells, play in the great pools here at the complex; we have gotten to do a few other fun items.
On Tuesday morning we start out our day with going to ride some elephants. It was fun to get on an elephant. Emma, Nellie, and I rode on one elephant. This female elephant was 60 years old. As you can imagine, I was a bit nervous about holding the baby on a seat on top of an elephant. Well, it turned out that Emma was a bit scared also. We decided that we would forgo the ride, and we would lounge in the shade while the others rode on their elephant. Harry, Hattie, and Little Harry rode an elephant that was 25 years old. Did I mention how high up the elephant is?? Anyway, they had a great time. The elephant’s trainer rode upon the elephants neck for a while, and then he jumped down and walked along side. Hattie was so amazed by how many times the elephant stopped to get a snack from surrounding trees. Little Harry seemed to have a great time. Big Harry said the only scary time was coming down the mountain when the elephant was in a bit of a “run” We have some great pictures of this event. I will work to get them posted, but I am not sure when at this time. After everyone returned from their ride, the group entertained us with a baby elephant show. They served us pineapple, watermelon, and coconuts while we lounged to wait for the show. The coconut has water inside it which is clear, and then you can eat the white meat from inside the coconut. It is not nearly as sweet as what we think of as coconut. I liked it anyway. They have one baby elephant who can play the harmonica, soccer, basket, and a few tricks. The funniest thing was watching the kids interact with the elephant. One of the elephant’s trick was to put a hat on a person. The elephant would get up on two feet and place the hat on the person’s head. Hattie went first, and she just giggled. Nellie went second, and she was a bit nervous. Big Harry went next, and he wasn’t sure what to think. He is a bit taller than Hattie and Nellie. It was fun!
After we were finished with the elephants, we went to have some lunch. Our driver took us to a place which was very special. It over-looked the sea. It was fun to hear the waves crashing as we ate our lunch. It was great! After lunch we headed to a temple to see the monkeys. Nellie was eating a banana as we drove up to the temple, and no sooner had the tuk-tuk stopped as the banana was snatched from my hand…..yep, by a monkey. It scared me to death. Needless to say, the family had no desire to purchase any food to feed the monkeys. We just walked around and looked at the temple and the shops there with souvenirs. As we were leaving, Hattie wanted to get a small item she found so she went to the shop, and a few minutes later she came running back with a terrified face. Apparently, a dog thought it would be a lot of fun to chase her. We thought it would have been a monkey!! She is fine. The dog didn’t even get close to her, but she was mighty scared.
What a fun day it was! We were all so tired. We rested for a while that afternoon, and then we went out for dinner. The family has really enjoyed this time to spend time together, and we have been conservative about our rest time also. Harry and Nellie need their rest, so we try to include some time for everyone to rest in the afternoon for a few hours. It has been great!
We hope you are doing well also. We are loving our little place we picked out to stay in. It has been a blessing. We have met many people here and out on the town.
