"Being a Farmer Has its Priveleges!"

God’s timing and provision is always on time and sufficient for what we need.  This was never more evident than this past Thursday when we went to visit our good friend and fellow dairy farmer Khun Prateep Chailee of CHAILEE FARM in Mae Sai.  I had some friends from Australia visiting and I wanted to introduce them to some of the people we work with.  One is a business consultant who has a heart for Business as Mission and has lots of agricultural development experience.  The other comes from a family that runs about 9,000 sheep in Australia.

We were walking through the heifer barn and we could see a full grown cow in the paddock in the distance rolling around on its back.  We all wondered what was going on, but knew it was serious when it’s head rolled back and it did not have the strength to get up.  Khun Prateep and Mr. Kell jumped through the fence and we all followed.  My friend Mr. Kell made a quick assessment of the situation and determined that the cow was suffering from a severe case of Bloat and probably dehydrated from the heat.  Untreated this condition can be fatal, so quick action was required.  Khun Prateep exclaimed that this happens often with his livestock and the result is always the same.  The cows, which represent a significant investment, always DIE.

We worked hard for over 2 hours to help this cow.  We tried to keep it propped upright so that it could breath.  We drenched it with vegetable oil to relieve the bloat and even inserted a tube to release the trapped air in the stomach.  After 2.5 hours we prescribed some treatments for the cow during the next hours. And then we asked Khun Prateep, a Buddhist, if we could pray for him and his farm.

Mr. Kell lead us in prayer.  He prayed for God’s blessing on Khun Prateep’s farm, on this animal, and that God would demonstrate His power in the life of this cow by healing her completely.

After he said Amen, we all looked up and immediately the sick cow raised her head … drank water on her own … and lowed to call her young calf to her side.  All miraculous signs of a recovering animal.

I have spoken with Khun Prateep several times since last Thursday, and he continues to exclaim that he has never seen this in all of his 20 years of farming.  God demonstrated his power, through prayer, so that Khun Prateep's entire farm team would see His timing, His provision, and His care for people and His animals.  God placed us in the right place, at the right time, to use the skills and knowledge that he has prepared us with, so that His Power might be known.

We also got to share at our friends village for an Animal Health Training about Discipleship and to watch Dr. Peter Quesenberry  teach about raising healthy livestock, and do Farm visits in the local area.

Thank you Jesus for your answered prayer, and for demonstrating your love through a simple farmer.

Greetings from our Family and God Bless.
