In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. John 1: 1-2.
It seems these days, that we are in a constant state of beginnings. Beginning a new organization, a new work, a new project, and new relationships in the community. With all of these changes and new developments, it is crucial that we understand the importance of "Beginnings". I generally think of a "beginning" as a point in time, but we should also consider that they can be a series of events that may encompass a period of years. A beginning on one hand might be a very simple activity that goes unnoticed, then again, it might just be that seemingly unnoticeable event that actually defines who you are.
From John's perpective in his first two verses, those who made up "THE" beginning, are the same ones that make up the basis for our existence and relationship with our creator God. Boiled down to a simple Math equation (in honor of my wife the calculus teacher), John explains who was responsible for "The Beginning" and their relationship to each other.
Word = God = Holy Spirit = Jesus
This fundamental truth is the basis for EVERYTHING! Our Belief, Our Relationships, Our Sustainance, our Salvation, and Our very LIFE! Before we start anything, we have to know how to begin. We have to know where our resources and authority come from, and we have to plan and prepared ourselves and our team for the task at hand.
This Sunday, we will meet for the first time in Mae Sai for the beginning of what I pray will be the first church among the Northern Thai People in this city. Several other people groups from surrounding countries meet and worship God together. However, Buddhism is so ingrained in the local cultural climate, that a Christian Church has yet to be planted among the Thai people.
The "Beginning" of our Church here in Mae Sai, is no different from "The Beginning" of time, in that, We have God's Word. As such God too is with us along with His Spirit and the His Son. God and His Word are our source of power, authority, and privilege for all that we say and do in His Name. We will be having our first meetings a the city park, we will sing praises and songs of His Glory, and we will begin to teach God's word, starting in verse one of the book of John.
Join us in prayer for our first service on Sunday. Pray for those who will be assisting us in facilitating our time together. Pray for the teaching of God's word as Harry will teach in the Thai Language for the first time. Pray that God would bring people to listen and learn. And Pray, that God's Kingdom would come and Will be done in Mae Sai, Thailand this Sunday.
Thank you for you prayers and support, and know that we recognize that we could not be here, were it not for God using you to impact our lives and ministry.
Thank you and God Bless.
