The Farley Family came to visit us during the month of December. They were a real blessing to us!! They were able to really bless us with their presence. The first week we spent alot of time just playing around the house. Harry and I had some business meetings during this week, so the Farley family really helped us out by watching the children and the dogs!! After that first week, we did some great things like visit a village, see the Queen mother's summer villa, ride the boats on the MeKong River, celebrate Christmas, went to a church opening, went to a new house party, went to Myanmar, played with children at a children's home, played at the park, went to Christmas parties, went to church, had Emma's birthday slumber party (and the men stayed at the training center), made cinnamon rolls for friends on Christmas morning and (of course) we rode the elephants.
So many things to tell about, and I am so far behind on my updates.... Check out the slideshow to see some of the things we did when the Farley family was here....
Since the month of January, our family has been really praying about how God is going to use us. God has presently asked us to step away from our position at the training center in order to prepare for a new work. The training center is presently operating as a sub-regional training center to reach many different countries. We are so proud to have been a part of the training center during its first two years. Presently, we are doing research that will benefit the future of the training center. After this time of research, we are hoping to make a decision based on God's call on our life for our next project. We are looking forward to what God has for us next. We all know that anything with God has got to be good.
Meanwhile, what other things are the Brittans doing?
The Brittan family took a vacation to Doi Mae Salong during the month of February. It is often called the " Swiss Alps Thailand?, and it is beautiful. This area is only about 1 hour from house, it is a most glorious place visit tea plantations beautiful mountains. We took the two dogs along with us to the resort. Each day we had a Bible lesson, took hikes, ate wonderful food, cooked on a campfire, ate s'mores, played in the waterfall, visited an Akha village, hiked up a mountain, and counted the stars. Poor Beau ,our littlest dog, had so much fun the first day playing in water that he blistered the pads his paws. He had to be carried or left behind on nature hikes and mountain climb. Check out the pictures to see some the beauty we saw. You can see a slide show of our vacation below:
On February 20th, Harry's mom, Jeanette arrived in Thailand for a visit. What a treat! The kids call her Grandmommie, and what a treat for the kids to have their Grandmommie here in Thailand. During her visit here, we spent many hours playing, going to the park, she was able to go to the Queen mother's summer villa (Doi Tung), rode the boats on MeKong River, go to the park, visit the milk shop, eat Thai food, and go shopping. It was a real treat to have her here to visit, and she did cook some great food we remember from the states. Mmmmmm!
During Grandmommie's visit, Pattie, Hattie and Emma attended our homeschool conference. It was a fun time. The girls were tested during the week to see how we were doing. Both of them made great scores on their tests, and it really showed us the areas where we need to work a little harder also. I am never disappointed by their test scores. Also, Hattie participated in the Science Fair. This year she did a project on Match Rockets. You can see a few pictures in the following slide show.
At the end of March, Pattie was able to attend the REST conference in Chiang Mai. Lifeway put together a team of people from the states, and they came to Thailand for a women's conference. It was a wonderful time of worship, learning, and playing. The music was a real blessing. My first night there I stood in the middle of the room, and Ijust listened to the angels singing. Glorious! We had some sessions that we could choose what we wanted to take, so I took Anger and Forgivenes: Dealing with it God's way; Material Girls (quilting class), and Scrapbooking. I was also able to learn how to do fuzzy flip flops. It was so fun to get to do some many different sessions. I learned some new skills, and I really had a good time doing it. I also was blessed by a wonderful roommate, Sunida (or Annie). It was so fun to sit and read the Bible with her in Thai, and we talked until past midnight the first night. How fun! Her English was really great, and she helped me to correct some of my Thai. God really used this weekend to hold me close.
On April 3, 2008, Harry and I had the opportunity to get away without the children. Our very good friends Jim and Denise agreed to take our children overnight, so we could get away for a bit. We were so blessed to get away. First, we went to ride the elephants!! Yep, Pattie wanted to ride the elephants. I have always been so scared of having to hold the kids on the elephant that I wanted to ride with just Harry. It was fun and tiring! I have pictures to prove I did it!!! Next, we followed some signs to "My Dream Guest House", and we were so surprised when we got there. The pavement ended and turned to dirt, and then the road turned back to pavement. Whew! Then again, we were driving on dirt....and there it was. The guest house was very cute little bungalows. Ours faced the river, and it was very peaceful. We enjoyed a few hours walking in the village and visiting with the Karen people. We were introduced to the village pastor, and we bought a few handmade goodies also. What a treat to watch them weave the cloth to make the bags I bought. Harry and I had a great dinner that evening at the guesthouse, and then we tried to count the stars while sitting by the river. Ah, the quietness was wonderful. What a treat it was to get away for a day.
Whew! You made it through our 4 month update. Please stay tuned for more update....MORE OFTEN!! Really.
Also, check out the prayer requests for our family to the right of our blog.
