Driving and Thai Dogs

Ok...this post is not about our family, but it is just an observation that I had this morning while taking the kids to school.

Driving here in Thailand is exciting to say the least. The driver sits on the right side of the car, and we drive on the opposite side from what we do in America. Ok....if that's not enough........they also have rules for the road that aren't really rules....just suggestions...... (snicker snicker). I have learned to drive here pretty well, and Harry is doing great at driving here. Harry started driving the day after we got to Thailand. I didn't start driving until about 2 or 3 weeks after we arrived.

I just wanted to describe to you a little about what I saw this morning. We drive a 4x4 truck with 4 doors and a camper top on it. It is not a full size truck. There are not any full size trucks here (at least not that I have seen). The city streets here are about the size of alley ways in America. There are major streets with many lanes, but most of them are just one lane each way. Ok....now imagine two cars going the opposite direction on an alley way in America. That is what it is like driving here. I am sure you have a picture of how tight the streets can be when you pass another car.

ok....now for the dogs.....(This really made me laugh) This morning as I drove the kids to school I had to squeeze past more dogs than I did cars. You see the dogs just lay in the road or where ever they want to. They also do not move just because you are coming toward them. I didn't want to find out how to make them move, so I went around them. These dogs don't always lay on the edge of the roadeither. One of them was laying in the middle of the road!! He wasn't a bit concerned when I was coming. He just layed there without moving as I passed. I was amazed. (Note to self: don't assume that you have the right of way....at least here)

Well, I have to go for now. It is time for language lessons!!
