"Praise the Lord for ... Passports?"

"Delight yourself in the LORD; And He will give you the desires of your heart." Psalms 37: 4

I never really thought of renewing a child's passport as the "desire of my heart," but when you live in a foreign country and it expires, all of a sudden it becomes very important. More than that, I want to praise the Lord and share with you just how God is able to provide for those desires, even when we do not have the resources ourselves. I mean let's face it, four passports can get expensive.

You may have heard that several weeks ago, we volunteered to do an English Camp for local school children through the municipal government here in Mae Sai. We told them that we did not want to be paid because this was our way of giving back to the community and more than that, it helps us to get to know people in the community better. Our camp was titled "Gone to Texas". We had a terrific time with over 50 children, and we served with some dear friends in the community. We met at the city offices, but nearly every afternoon, when it was over, kids started to come to our house to visit and play. They played with the dogs, the goats, the kids, and we had a chance to get to know about them and their families. Being able to build friendships that will last and help us be part of their lives will lead to opportunities to share with them about the Love and Plan of Jesus in their lives. In addition to English conversation, they learned Line-Dancing, and some Texas-Slang.

That brings me to "Passports". Before renewing our Visas and Work-Permits for the next year, we needed to apply and pay for new passports for each of our four children (5 years goes really fast). It was crucial that application be made yesterday at the US Consulate in Chiang Mai to allow time for processing before our Visas expire next month. The problem however, was that we did not have the money for the fees.

Following the English Camp where we volunteered our time, the city coordinator pulled us each to the side. She said, "Before you leave, you need to sign this receipt!" "Receipt for what?" We asked. She explained that they had decided that they liked our program and that the offices wanted to pay us for our time teaching at the camp. We graciously signed, but did not look into the envelopes until later. When we did, we were overwhelmed to see that they had paid us EXACTLY the amount needed to pay for four passports, and our travel to the US Consulates office in Chiang Mai.

Praise the LORD! For he is Good and Worthy of our Praise. It is God's Will that we serve the people and children of Mae Sai, Thailand, and He is faithful to fulfill His promises to "give you the desires of your heart." Even if that desire is a child's passport.

Praise the LORD with us for His Abundance, and for His provision in our family and our ministry.
